They call this a job?

The job in Tofino is official! I was pretty sure it was going to turn out that way, but I needed to come up here to have a formal interview with the Surf Club manager and the General Manager of the hotel. Both Jamie (surf club manager) and Perry (general manager) are genuinely nice guys, and extremely laid back considering their responsibilities. Check out the website of the hotel for a better idea of the quality. If you read through even 10 of the reviews posted on tripadvisor.com you'll get an idea of how reputable this particular resort is.

Ohhh man. So beautiful. So bloody excited.

My job in the summer will be surf instructing, if you didn't already guess. There will be 3 senior instructors including myself, and a bunch of other on-call instructors. The on-call guys/gals usually have other jobs at the resort as well. As for my role at the resort, I'll have the option of teaching up to 3 lessons a day, each at 2.5 hours in length. That said, Jamie has given me the option for extra work on the side. It could really be anything from housekeeping, laundry to bartending. Nothing is set in stone at this point, but at least I have options if I decide to work more.

The "Great Room". 270 degree view of Cox Bay. Doesn't that just suck.

The staff accommodation at the resort is actually pretty gangbusters. It reminds me a lot of residence at Vanier at UBC and there's a huge common room with foosball, couches, and a huge kitchen! Bam! I also met a few of the guys I'll be working with in the summer and they all seem super chill. I honestly couldn't be more excited about this opportunity and I'm sure I'll be busy. Not to mention I'm living on Cox Bay which is an amazing spot... Tons of surfing in my future! The only drawback is that I won't be able to move up here until June 15th. That gives me lots of time to fill, so I'm trying to volunteer at one of the Victoria hospitals still. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Also, I'll be competing at Lifesaving Nationals, going to my first Bachelor party for my friend Alec, and hopefully surfing a LOT.

Terrible picture of the surf club building.. Really should have taken my own!

Training wise, I'm definitely back to running :) I'm up to 40 minutes now and it's starting to feel way more natural. I've also been back swimming a bit and have just started some light cycling. The leg feels great! No pain whatsoever. Noa and I are still being cautious about ramping up mileage or intensity, and I'm still running on very soft surfaces, but I'm seeing definite progression. Now I just need to find some sick trails here in Tofino!

Take 'er easy and keep it real!
Der
